Cookie banner with Consent Mode v2: compliant, with no monthly licence
Reject on the first layer, settings per purpose, Consent Mode v2 with every consent type and a record of each choice. No monthly licence.

What a cookie banner has to do today
A cookie banner is more than a notice. It asks for consent before analytics or advertising services store or read data in the browser. Data protection authorities in the EU have made clear what they look for: rejecting must be as easy as accepting, no boxes may be pre-ticked, and visitors must learn which providers are used for what.
Then there is the technical side. Since Google requires Consent Mode v2, the banner also has to pass the visitor's choice on to the Google tags. Without it, Google Ads lacks data for audiences and measurement.
How the Trackum banner is built
- A first layer with two equal buttons, "Reject" and "Accept all": same size, same colour
- Settings per purpose: Necessary, Statistics, Marketing and Functional, with the providers in each category
- A note that some providers are based in the USA
- Placed at the bottom centre, the page stays usable, no grey overlay
- Neutral wording that fits any website
- A small button at the bottom left reopens the choice at any time

Consent Mode v2 with every consent type
When the page starts, a dedicated template in Google Tag Manager sets every type to "denied" before any other tag runs. These are ad_storage, ad_user_data, ad_personalization and analytics_storage, plus functionality_storage and personalization_storage. Only security_storage is always granted.
When the visitor clicks "Accept all", all six types are granted. If they choose only Statistics, only analytics_storage is granted. Consent is set through the official Tag Manager interface, as Google describes it for templates. We check the flow in Google's Tag Assistant: no consent read before the default, no warning.
Every choice is recorded
The GDPR requires that you can prove consent. With every choice, the banner therefore sends a short entry to Trackum: a random ID, the time, the chosen purposes, the banner version and the page without parameters. No IP address is stored. Entries are deleted after 36 months.

Withdrawing is as easy as consenting
Using the button at the bottom left or a link to #cookie-einstellungen, visitors can change their choice at any time. If they withdraw consent, the banner deletes the tracking cookies and stops Google Analytics immediately, not only on the next page load.
Cost
The banner costs a one-off 100 euros, with no monthly licence. The cookie scan with a cookie table and privacy policy text is included. This article is not legal advice. Ask your data protection officer to assess your website.
Frequently asked questions
Does anything from Google or Meta load before consent?
No. The banner uses the basic mode of Consent Mode: before a choice is made, no Google or Meta tag loads. Data only goes to the providers the visitor has allowed, and only after consent.
How long does the banner remember the choice?
Consent for twelve months, a rejection for six months. If a new provider is added, the banner asks again, because the consent would otherwise no longer be informed.
Can I change the colours and look?
The default is a neutral black and white with a glass effect that adapts to light and dark mode. A custom button colour is possible. The small "powered by Trackum" note can be removed for an extra fee.

Where did the lead come from? The CRM handover writes source, campaign and click ID into the CRM with every enquiry, without a form plugin.

Google Ads and Meta learn from what you report to them. If they only get form fills, they optimise for form fills. With offline conversions, they optimise for sales.
FeaturesSaving UTM parameters and gclid in forms: so no campaign gets lost
A visitor arrives from an ad, clicks through three pages and then submits the form. By then, the UTM parameters have long gone from the address. This is how they are kept.
